Husqvarna 357xp, running better but...

There is still something going wrong. After shooting this video, I'm thinking that perhaps the carb needle isn't always seating properly and at times floods the saw out with the quickness.

Those two saws harmonized together very well!
Not a mechanic but I seen this issue with different things. Coil gap the hotter the saw gets the worse it gets. Needle Valve issue in the carb gets worse and have seen bad ones new. I noticed it has the green fuel cap which was the eco model back in the day known for problems. That's why I made sure my 346xp was none green cap or eco model. Husqvarna had issues with these models
I got a big ass fox logo 🤘🏼🤘🏼
👍👍 good luck with it. Probably wrong, but guessing the carb adjustments need to be micro managed. Normal 1/4 turns may be too much and if the wind starts blowing from the east- going to have to tune it again.
I've seen faster😮.
It would have to be an air leak
Just ship it my way, I'll figure it out. Have a 3 day weekend coming up so i'll have some time
It's not an air leak sometimes when you open up the carburetors it slows the velocity down and that affects the low idle circuit
Hey novice which brand of chainsaws is top tier quality? Husqvarna or Stihl?
Same. I prefer Husqvarna, but I am smart enough to understand that is just my preference.
I can tell you Really want this one to do well, but sometimes you got to just step away take a few before it gets to be not fun
I’ll look at it if Dave doesn’t wanna do it. Mail it
Dave already said he'd look at it. You're welcome to "look" at my 2156.
I have a nos cyl kit, bearings, Gaskets and seals ready and waiting for a complete rebuild of mine.
As you know crank seals sometimes won't start leaking till its GOOD and hot!
Got you beat on the race to boom!😅 Took me about 5 trys but my g372xp is at .014" squish now. Its got a base gasket cut out of a 12 pack carton, a regular base gasket, and a .005 shim gasket stacked( 268 pop up piston). I have to get something to bury it in. All I have tryed so far is 12 " southern live oak. Very hard but only 12". So far no boom. About 2 mm more stroke, .001 less squish, ever played chicken?😂 Tag. Not really let me put some heat into this saw first see if I make contact. Got a new 28" neotec lite bar and chain that was on sale on amazon and a lightning struck 100' tree to test it on.
With big saws I usually tune for no idle screw, saves gas, prevents flooding. But with small zippy saw for liming I tune for half screw, this helps with the vacuum and cools through fuel. I'd say your in the later even tho its a larger saw. To take the guess work out, screw all the way out, set high idle, count turns till it touches or bottoms, screw out half way, adjust from there. Hope it helps.

This may be your Eleanor🙄😏

Personally I never go heavier than 60:1 on oil, only exception would be a small bore MX bike. 250cc and up, 60:1 is plenty. A high-quality synthetic just doesn't need that much oil to lubricate everything, adding extra just makes a gunked up mess. The mix in my power equipment now is about 80:1 with Amsoil Saber, no issues. My 300cc cross country bike is injected and averages about 80:1. 150 hours and the motor is in great shape.
Maxima 927 for milling, at 32 to 1?
That's a bad ass for sure.
I should pack up my 359/357 combo and have you do something with it. I've had it sitting forever and just haven't had time to take it on. I hate seeing it sit as they're a great chassis! Nice work buddy!
Lol. South Dakota.
I have cut wood since my step dad thought I could safely run a saw at 10. I am 43 now and continue to heat with wood. Growing up I had a husky in my hands more often than not but we did have a few stihls and there were some oddball backups such as a dinosaur homelite that ran suprisingly well. I always felt like the huskys seemed to have a slight edge in torque and was what I grabbed when cutting down large trunks and limbs. You could dig the dogs in and lever them quite fast once acquainted with the saw. I would say though that they were always the most temperamental about starting / restarts. I would generally grab a stihl if working the smaller stuff because they didn't have the starting issues. The last saw I bought 3 years ago was a cs-490. I got an open box deal of ebay for $200 shipped (had I known what I know now I would have bought three and not needed a saw for a very long time. I have many chords through the echo and it still fires up first pull and runs great. Initially I was a little put off with how it felt... It didn't have the torque but once getting used to it I don't really feel like it's all that much different. I rely less on the dogs than i did with other brands and generally just keep light pressure and WOT. I'll also say the 20" bar is really a bit much for the 490 but it is better to have for versatility like cutting brush where the extra reach keeps you out of the pile. I absolutely love the saw and am probably going to pick up a 3410 for delimb and light duty. What the 490 really has going for it is with a muffler mod it's got just enough power to be a good firewood saw and the weight is such that you can run it all day without your shoulders killing you (well if you are middle aged like me). The 590 is a heavy SOB and I cartainly wouldn't want to run one all day or make many waste or above cuts. I have used some china made castings to repair a few things like my mothers husky string trimmer (she ran strait gas) They were economical, and after spending a little time cleaning up the castings they worked well for a long time. I have really wanted to try out some of the china zenoha clones. Never had any experience with them (I have ran a limited number of redmax helping friends and wasn't put off by them). I feel like they are probably pretty decent saws for the most part with corners cut in manufacturing that for the most part could be resolved by tearing down, cleaning up and reassembling. I do however read some comments some times that have kept me away. Like for example someone said that the bar that comes on one of the jpntech 105cc doesn't have a nose bearing... That sort of thing. I might be able to work around a poorly heat treated bar on a smaller saw or replace it but the fact that they would do that on a 36" bar pisses me off. You are over a expensive barrel and after you poney up for a bar that isn't garbage any other issues make it less and less atractive. I am impressed by the proyama though and might well pick one up next time I see one of the absurdly cheap promotional / coupon deals on amazon. I appreciate you posting this video and taking the time to make it. You are obviously a knowledgeable guy and this is the sort of thing that makes me feel a little better about trying out a questionable product (note* questionable doesn't always equate to bad). Subscribed and watching some of your other stuff.
I just picked one up tonight!! Cant believe i scored a running Bad Boy 3750 for $50 ya he was asking $40 i gave him 50 and a thanks! Got to see how this cuts vs my 590.
Holy Moly! What a great deal! Happy for you, buddy!
Did you ever compare the 359 ported to your 357 ported?
Regardless if that's a chain issue or not, that freaking saw screams.
I would do the VS the 372 that’s one a lot of people would understand or relate with
That's your opinion bud , Donny Walker ported my T435 and it's a great trim saw , maybe your not good at porting saws !!!
This video is from August 2022. That's nearly two years ago, jackass. I think you know I've come a long way since then. But looks like two things have remained the same, 1. You still act like an ass who thinks he knows everything from time to time. And... 2. The T435 is a poor excuse for a tophandle saw. Don't be a prick. You're welcome for the free entertainment.
Well I ported my first 2 saws. A 4218 strato that started with a 14 second cut stock. I got it down to 9 seconds with mods not including porting. Went from 9 to 7 with porting just widening and raising the exhaust, lowering the intake. The second one was a 4620 poulan that I had already optimized everything outside the motor and did a 6 second cut. With porting it went down to 5 seconds. I blew right through my intended number on the 46. Trying to port with a 1/4" air die grinder . Went from a 108.5 exhaust roof to 97.5. Fully expected it to fall on its face. Amazingly it didn't.
Todd from Project Farm voice: very impressive performance from the 357xp!
Great versus video. Those are my favorite. This was an interesting ported versus modded upper cc battle. I could see you may get some backlash for the end of your video but it's true, just because you love your old saw Betsy doesn't make it faster in a one-on-one.
👍🏻 just because I like my little old Poulan 2000, would it hold a candle to an ms250? Hail no! Would it even beat a stock ms170🤔😅
@@aaronpowell4885 😁
I was impressed by the 357. Once it is broken in it might beat the 565
Stock Running a 24" bar mine doesn't bogg down like that pulling fairly hard on it.
I sold a knife for over $41. The buyer paid for shipping. I ended up receiving 10$! What a scam! Never again!
Richard Flagg is great!

Good stuff👍🏻
Dont beat too hard on mac. A mac 850 and Husqvarna 281 are equal speed and power If you're taking about the mcbricks or cinderblock macs then yeah.
my 2252 doesn't start at that temperature, I have to remove the cover to start it, I just couldn't breathe.
Craftsman : Normal china CS5200 engine.... Solo651 never compare to him.... 6651 yes it this same china engine.....
Actually didn’t do too bad. Figured the 565 would just runaway with it. The ole 357 held its own.
I can't help myself... I'm going back in! Same stuff I did to the Makita, this 357 is gonna get it!
I figured the same thing. With the muffler mod, I'm pretty sure the 565 will beat a 572xp.
@@novicelumberjack Excited to see what you can get out of it.
For all my low side adjustments I've always ran the idle just a little high and set the low until it spins the highest rpm then add about 1/8 to 1/4 turn of fuel to it. I adjust the idle from there and adjust the high side from there.. That almost always gets it as close to perfect as you can get until altitude or a huge swing in temp/humidity changes it.
Success! Finally! That's gotta feel good👍🏻
😮😮😮
Needs a bigger carb !!! Trust me
I dunno what the issue is but my silly 2 cents: open up the throttle for more air on startup an then add low jet till you can't, rinse and repeat. May be useless. Great saws you are showing in the 60cc class.
Honda of Troy, great guys. I rode n race with em. The hot weather thins the oxygen in the air. Humidity displaces oxygen, it will run better. you been kicking out some great videos lately, take a break in the shade brother.
